Grits are essentially in two forms:
They are essential for budgies and other psittacines (relating to or denoting birds of the parrot family) and should be made available at all times. Listen to the podcast to hear the rationale behind feeding grit.
1. Soluble grit: Fine Oystershell Grit - where calcium and other minerals can be absorbed (the bird is getting a nutritional benefit from it).
2. Insoluble grit: Mineralised Tonic Grit - grit that's not broken down to any appreciable extent, but that remains in the bird's gizzard and helps with grinding down food to extract more goodness from a seed diet.
